Border Management Overview
The Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS) is mandated to manage Kenya’s borders in line with the Constitution, the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act (2011), its Regulations (2012), the East African Community OSBP Act (2016), and other relevant laws. Border Management encompasses a wide range of strategic functions aimed at enhancing national security, facilitating legal migration, and safeguarding Kenya’s territorial integrity. These include enforcement of immigration laws, combating organized immigration crime, deploying modern technologies, and fostering national and international partnerships. Through fraud prevention, public engagement, and strict data protection practices, the DIS ensures efficient, secure, and transparent border operations that uphold human rights while protecting national interests.
